Indian Railways To Launch 150 MW Solar Power Tender




The Indian Railways has finally announced plans to expand its presence in the solar power market with an aim to aid the government’s plan to have 100 GW operational solar power capacity by March 2022.
The Ministry of Railways has launched a tender to set up 50 MW rooftop solar power capacity. The ministry also said that an additional capacity of 100 MW will also be offered to prospective developers.
These rooftop solar power projects are expected to be installed atop several railways stations across the country. The Indian Railways may also set up utility-scale solar power projects in the near-future.
The Indian Railways is planning to set up 1 GW of solar power capacity over the next few years and is currently working on a plan to implement this capacity. The large-scale solar PV projects are likely to come up on the vast area of unused land available with the Railways. This capacity will be set up with support from the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy through financial assistance from the National Clean Energy Fund.
The power generated from these large-scale power plants may be used for meeting the Renewable Purchase Obligation of the Railways, which is one of the largest consumers of electricity in the country, or it could be sold to the power utilities at a fixed pre-determined rate.
Last year, the Indian Railways also announced plans to issue green bonds to potentially raise funds to fuel its renewable energy expansion.
The Indian Government has asked public sector companies to set up large-scale as well as rooftop solar power projects and contribute towards to the target of 100 GW installed solar power capacity by March 2022.

Global revenue from solar PV installations to total $1.2 trillion by 2024 according to Navigant Research



Summary: According to a recent report from Navigant Research, global revenue from solar PV installations is expected to total more than $1.2 trillion from 2015 to 2024.
Navigant Research has examined the market for solar PV, providing forecasts for capacity and revenue, segmented by region and country, through 2024.
According to the company, the global electric power industry is evolving into a model that offers more diversity, both in terms of generation and in the ownership of generation assets, and solar PV is one technology at the head of this change. Following years of unsustainable pricing and oversupply, demand for solar PV systems has finally caught up, with 2015 expected to be the year when the global solar PV market shifts and starts to compete with other technologies. 
“Solar PV and renewable energy generation as a whole is a policy-driven industry,” says Roberto Rodriguez Labastida, senior research analyst with Navigant Research. “Legislation and regulation regarding solar PV development are being driven by increased concerns about the environment and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as by a desire for greater energy independence and to spur job growth and entrepreneurial opportunities in emerging parts of the economy.”
The company claims that new business models, such as solar leases, green bonds, and yield cos, have reduced the barriers around customer adoption of solar PV systems and increased the potential for profits. The report suggests that these business model innovations will continue to further drive the industry in the coming years when incentives are scaled back in most major markets. 

The report, Distributed Solar PV, provides solar PV capacity and revenue forecasts through 2024, with a focus on distributed systems, broken down by region and select country. Policy issues and market drivers are detailed for each region, along with average prices over the forecast period.
