French institute, Crompton Greaves plan PV-plus-battery at Indian airports

Indian firm Crompton Greaves (BOM:500093), or CG, will look into the market potential for the installation of battery-equipped solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays at domestic airports under a partnership with French research lab CEA-Liten.

Power equipment maker CG, part of Avantha Group, said Wednesday the cooperation will last for as much as a year. The partners estimate that over 500 MW of such systems can be developed and constructed countrywide.

Stage one of the collaboration, unveiled during the India-France Business Summit in Chandigarh, will require no capital investment. If the partners identify suitable business opportunities, they will set up factories using CG’s infrastructure and CEA’s technology know-how.
CEA-Liten is part of the French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA). The Liten Institute focuses on technological research in fuel cells, hydrogen production, photovoltaic, biomass and storage technologies.
India aims to increase its installed PV capacity from less than 6 GW at present to 100 GW by 2020.
